New on Netflix: Fresh disgust horror – here insects want more and more blood! – Cinema News

In the French horror film “Swarm of Terrors” a single mother has to deal with locusts in a blood frenzy. Also new on Netflix: the musical and colorful animated adventure “Vivo – Full of Life”.

Anyone who has ever been bothered by wasps, bees or similar flies during a summer visit to the ice cream parlor knows that encounters with insects can sometimes be really cruel (and annoying!). In “Swarm of Terrors”, which is available on Netflix from today, it is now locusts that provide plenty of horror.

However, the tradition of films like “Stung”, “Bite”, “Arac Attack” or “Mimic” is probably not followed here. Instead, French filmmaker Just Philippot is more concerned with showing the morbid obsession of a woman who is willing to shed all morality in “Swarm of Terrors”. The locusts are an expression of their helplessness and ruthlessness.

Virginie (Suliane Brahim) lives with her two children Laura (Marie Narbonne) and Gaston (Raphael Romand) on a remote farm and breeds grasshoppers in order to process them into flour. Life here is no picnic, money worries and numerous other problems are part of everyday life for the small family.

However, things take a surprising turn when Virginie realizes that her locusts crave human blood. Only then do the insects show readiness to reproduce. An abysmal idea grows in Virginie, which soon changes her character. Even her own children have trouble recognizing their own mother…

A monkey on the road: This is “Vivo”

It doesn’t always have to be Pixar when it comes to the fine art of animated film. If you believe the trailer, you will be taken on a journey that does one thing above all: to put you in a good mood.

Vivo (voiced by Lin-Manuel Miranda) is a rainforest honey bear living a thoroughly happy life in Cuba. Together with his owner Andrés (Juan de Marcos González), he makes music every day in a lively square in Havana and inspires the crowds that stream by.

One day, Andrés receives a letter from the famous singer Marta Sandoval (Gloria Estefan), inviting him to a farewell concert in Miami. However, Andrés is unable to make the journey, which prompts Vivo to undertake the journey himself and deliver a very special message to Marta. A unique adventure begins…
