New on Amazon Prime: This Viking adventure is a must for all fans of “Conan” and “The Northman” – Kino News

If you have a soft spot for barbaric Viking adventures in the style of “The Northman”, “Conan” or “The 13th Warrior”, you should not miss “The Viking’s Revenge” with an Amazon Prime Video subscription.

Steel bodies? Sharpened axes? grunts and roars? You don’t just get that in “Conan the Barbarian” or “The Northman”, but also in “The Viking’s Revenge”, which is now available as a subscription to Amazon Prime Video. This is also the uncut FSK-16 version. For many years Hrafn Gunnlaugsson’s Icelandic adventure was only available in a version with eight minutes truncated.

If you’re not sure whether you’ve seen the film before, then it has something to do with the rather arbitrary title “The Viking’s Revenge”. But that’s not all, because the Viking adventure is also known under the name “The Sunken Empire” or “Hakan, the Barbarian”. In any case, if you’re in the mood for rough revenge cinema in a historical guise, you shouldn’t risk a look here.

That’s what “The Revenge of the Vikings” aka “The Sunken Empire” is about

We are writing the 9th century: Twenty years ago, merciless Vikings attacked his homeland, set the village on fire, killed his parents in cold blood and also kidnapped his sister. Since then, the young Irishman Gest (Jakob Thór Einarsson) has been determined to free them from the clutches of the human monsters.

Driven by his thirst for revenge, the young warrior sets out for remote Iceland, where the Vikings and their feared leader Hakon have retreated. The reason for this is that the Horde fell out of favor with the Norwegian king…

In addition to “The Revenge of the Vikings” there is another Prime newcomer that we don’t want to withhold from you at this point…

Also new to Amazon Prime Video: “Equilibirium” with Christian Bale

While “Matrix” revolutionized action cinema in the 1990s, there were always genre contributions in the early years of the turn of the century that also attempted to achieve cult status through creative action choreography. This also applies to the dystopian-stylish “Equilibrium” with Christian Bale as the killing machine, which is now also included in the Prime subscription.

And that’s what it’s about: After the devastating Third World War, human emotions are regarded as the cause of all conflicts and from then on are suppressed using a special serum. Only a few rebels resist the treatment and hide underground, where they are hunted by the so-called Grammaton clerics.

John Preston (Bale) is considered one of the best hunters in the service of the government until one day, however, he has doubts about his murderous activities. However, once he misses his own dose and rediscovers what it actually means to feel, he himself becomes the system’s hunted enemy.
